Research Overview

Get involved

At Pearson Clinical Assessment, we publish assessments for use in health, education and psychology settings. Our assessments cover areas such as general ability, language, cognition and motor skills.

We run data collection projects across the UK to find out how people of each age group typically perform in our assessment areas. Our development team is always looking for children, adults and schools to take part.

What is a standardisation project?

Before we publish our newly developed assessments, we have a standardisation phase. During this phase, the assessment is tested under standard conditions. We administer the assessment to a sample of the general population to find out how people typically perform. This sample usually includes a retest reliability study, multiple validity studies, and candidates with clinical diagnoses. The sample collected during the standardization phase is usually fully stratified to reflect population characteristics captured by the census.

Once the test has been published and is being used in clinical practice, professionals can use the standardisation scores as a benchmark to know how an individual is performing.

How does it work?

We have examiners located all over the UK. Each examiner has professional qualifications, has a criminal background check, and is specially trained by our team of researchers.

If you are selected as a participant, your assessment session can take place somewhere local to you – our examiners can even travel to your home if you’d prefer! You will receive an Amazon gift card as a thank you for taking part.

If you are interested in taking part in one of our projects, please visit our ‘Be a Participant’ page.

If you are a psychologist or allied health professional and are interested in working with us, please visit our ‘Be an Examiner’ page.

If you have any questions, or would like more information, please contact the Research Team by emailing clinicalresearch@pearson.com.
