The evolution of WAIS and the future of adult cognitive assessment
⏯ Listen to episode
Listen to Dr Marianne Trent and Dr Keith Jenkins explore the story behind the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS®), its continued relevance in adult cognitive assessment, and how its evolution reflects the changing needs of clinicians today.
If you’ve heard them discuss the story behind the WAIS, take the next step and learn more about WAIS-5UK, Pearson’s latest edition of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, and how it has been developed to support today’s clinicians with clear, reliable and evidence-based insight into adult cognitive ability.
WAIS-5UK: a brief overview
The Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, Fifth UK Edition (WAIS-5UK) is Pearson’s most advanced adult measure of cognitive ability. Built on the theories and work of David Wechsler, PhD, and informed by recent research in cognitive neuroscience, WAIS-5UK is designed for assessing cognitive ability in individuals aged 16:0 to 90:11.
WAIS-5UK brings together updated UK norms, shorter administration time, expanded clinical utility and a more streamlined user experience. It includes separate Visual Spatial and Fluid Reasoning index scores, broader coverage of working memory, processing speed and fluid reasoning, and co-norming with WMS-5UK to support more precise comparisons between cognitive ability and memory.
