The British Picture Vocabulary Scale (BPVS3) is a receptive vocabulary assessment for children aged 3-16 years. It measures a child's understanding of spoken words by having them choose a picture that best represents a given word. As no reading or spoken response is required, this test is suitable for non-readers, those with expressive language impairments, autism, or English as an additional language. The assessment uses large-format, vividly colored illustrations with black outlines to accommodate people with color vision deficiencies.

How BPVS3 can help you

Identify high and low language impaired children

BPVS3 helps to Identify any delays in a child's vocabulary development from as early as three years old, as well as children with advanced vocabulary who need additional support. When combined with a measure of school attainment, BPVS3 should help identify students whose academic performance is below their potential.

Suitable for pre- or non-verbal learners

Responses can be provided through pointing or gesturing, making the assessment suitable for non-readers and children with specific learning difficulties.

Assess Progress

BPVS3 can be used as a time-efficient benchmarking and progress-checking assessment from pre-school to secondary school.
