New courses for 2021/2022!

The health and safety of our customers, course leaders and employees remain our number one priority. As a result of the government advice on COVID-19 and social distancing, we have decided to proceed with online training.

We are now opening live Zoom sessions, led by 2 of our ADOS-2 International Trainers - Fiona Gullon-Scott and Tiago Pinto on the following dates:

  • 13th - 14th December 2021

  • 24th - 25th January 2022

  • 21st - 22nd February 2022

  • 28th - 29th March 2022

  • 25th - 26th April 2022

  • 16th - 17th May 2022

No previous ADOS experience is required to join the training, but delegates are expected to understand autism and the diagnostic criteria. The ADOS2 course is not intended as an introduction to autism.

The course is aimed at all professionals who work as part of a multi-disciplinary team undertaking autism assessments, who work as clinicians who make autism diagnoses, or who work in allied professions where autism assessment may be part of the role. This includes, but is not limited to, psychologists, psychiatrists, paediatricians, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and in some contexts mental health nurses.

Attendance is required across both days because certification to use the ADOS2 requires understanding of the lifespan application of the instrument, regardless of whether working with children or adults.

Sessions have limited availability and are interactive allowing delegates to ask questions and interact with the course trainers.

Each session is £500 excluding VAT

NB Pearson only offers the 2-day clinical workshops. It does not offer the 5 day research reliability training - this is offered independently by trainers whose details can be found  on the Weill Cornell Medical College website

About the course

This workshop is for professionals unfamiliar with the ADOS-2; it will provide an introduction and guidance on the use of the ADOS-2 for the purposes of clinical assessment.

Our experienced trainers will provide an overview of the ADOS-2 and demonstrate administration and scoring, operationalising diagnostic criteria for ASD. You will have the opportunity to practise scoring with guidance from the trainers on the nuances of administration and coding the ADOS-2.

The workshop focuses primarily on Modules 1 to 4; materials are provided in order to complete training in the Toddler Module following the workshop.

An important component of the workshop is the Pre and Post Course Materials which are included in the cost of the workshop. These materials include two DVDs focused on Modules 1 to 4 and one DVD/Guidebook providing training in the Toddler Module.

Participants should familiarise themselves with the pre-course materials in preparation for the workshop. After the workshop, participants use the post-course materials to reinforce skills learned and complete training in the Toddler Module.

The Pre and Post Course Materials amount to approximately 10 hours of required self directed learning.

The UK trainers will be one of those outlined on the list above. The actual trainer will be detailed on the relevant course booking form.

Who should attend

  • For clinicians with a prior background in autism and formal testing this 2-day workshop is sufficient to support use of the ADOS-2 to inform the diagnosis of autism and autism spectrum disorders. Physicians, psychologists, occupational therapists, and speech-language therapists will be better prepared to make diagnostic and educational decisions, and evaluate programs after completing the workshop. In addition it is recommended that at least one person from each setting/organisation using ADOS-2 has attended a research reliability training.
  • Individuals with less background in testing but who provide services for individuals and families affected by autism may take the workshop for informational purposes.
  • Researchers who plan to use the ADOS-2 in research need to attend in-person research workshops. Pearson does not run research reliability workshops, but it is recommended that at least one person from each setting/organisation using ADOS-2 has attended a research reliability training. The 5 day research reliability training is offered independently by trainers whose details can be found on the designated UK ADOS trainers' page.
  • If you require longer in-person training with less self-directed learning, then it is recommended you attend a full research reliability training event.

Note: Attendance on the course does not guarantee qualification to purchase ADOS-2; access to test materials is governed by our qualification criteria, please see our registration information page for further details.

It was a really good course and the facilitator was great. She was really good at explaining the assessment and how this was carried out. it was a very practical focused training and made it clear around how it was to be implemented. I feel ok about carrying the ADOS - 2 out after this.
