Talk of the Town Project (TOTT)

Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamentals - Fourth Edition UK (CELF-4 UK) - Talk of the Town Project (TOTT)

Talk of the Town (TOTT) is an integrated, community-led approach to supporting speech, language and communication in children from Birth to 19 years; it is being run by The Communication Trust, with whom we partnered for the National Year of Communication and the Hello campaign.

The project being piloted in a small community in Wythenshawe, South Manchester included the use of two of our assessments, the PLS-4UK and the CELF-4UK.

The two assessments have helped to develop a programme of work which aims to improve the speech, language and communication of young people across Wythenshawe.

Integral to the project, these assessments have provided the information needed to understand the depth and scale of the problem across the Federation and it has been reported that they have been most useful for the schools that have used them in their Ofsted inspections. A number of schools are now looking to commission for the PLS-4UK assessment of all children in reception at the beginning and end of every year.
