The Wechsler Memory Scale®-Third Edition Abbreviated (WMS®-III Abbreviated) is a fast reliable, survey of auditory and visual memory abilities. Derived from the Wechsler Memory Scale®-Third Edition (WMS®-III)|, this abbreviated version was designed to provide clinicians an estimate of general memory functioning when extended memory testing is not indicated or is not feasible.
The test is sensitive to memory impairments associated with a variety of clinical conditions including dementia, neurological and neuropsychiatric conditions. The battery may be used as part of a standard psychological or neuropsychological evaluation. The WMS®-III Abbreviated was designed to enable clinicians to monitor changes in memory performance through statistical analysis of serial assessments.

The Wechsler ability tests are restricted to Clinical Psychologists, Educational Psychologists and Psychologists with a relevant PhD. Other psychologists in training can have access to the tests only under the supervision of an appropriately qualified Psychologist. Under no circumstances should other professionals be given access to the Wechsler materials.
