I studied Mathematics, Philosophy, and Cognitive Science at Manchester and Edinburgh Universities, then worked at Warwick University and the University of York before joining Lancaster University in 2007 as Professor of Cognition.

I am currently co-director of the ESRC International Centre for Language and Communicative Development, and my research involves language acquisition, literacy development, and the effects of sleep on learning and memory. See http://www.lancs.ac.uk/staff/monaghan for more details.
