Thousands of schools sign up for phonics funding
Is yours one of the 3,211 schools who have signed up for the DfE’s phonics funding program? If so, you may know all about the government’s drive to raise pupil’s standards of reading across the UK.
The phonics project, which launched last September, offers schools match-funding on a range of phonics resources and training up to the value of £3,000 until March 2013. To date 3,211 schools have signed and are set to spend more than £7.7 million on phonics resources. However these figures present a mixed picture, with uptake of the scheme varying across Local Authority.
Support for reading and phonological awareness is an area that Pearson Assessment champions. In the Education section of our website you can find range of assessments and intervention materials for literacy and phonological awareness.
Some key titles to look out for are:
Launch into Reading Success| - a program designed to teach phonological awareness skills so critical for the focused word work in the Literacy Hour in Key Stage 1.
Phonological Abilities Test (PAT)| – a comprehensive test aimed at assessing the nature and extent of a child's phonological weakness
Preschool and Primary Inventory of Phonological Awareness (PIPA)| – which assesses the nature and extent of a child's phonological awareness development
